South Carolina Building New Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility For Youth
South Carolina recently began construction on a new psychiatric treatment center expected to care for incarcerated youth with mental health issues. The $23 million facility is expected to open in November 2026. ;
The site will be called the William R. Byars Jr. Treatment Center. It will have space for up to 24 youth in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice, with the ability to expand to a capacity of 32 if needed.
