Medicaid Payment for Assisted Living: Residents Have a Right to Return After Hospitalization
January 1, 2011 The National Senior Citizens Law Center reviewed state Medicaid policies regarding provisions, such as room hold payments, to ensure that Medicaid-eligible assisted living residents would not be evicted from an assisted living facility following an absence, such a hospitalization. They found that state policies varied widely and most were had not incorporated federal Medicaid guidance that gives states authority to address room hold issues by authorizing Medicaid-funded retainer payments when a Medicaid beneficiary is hospitalized.
