January 2011 – Update on the Plan for the Closure of Lanterman Developmental Center
January 11, 2011 The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is helping the 12 Regional Centers affiliated with the Lanterman Developmental Center, which is slated for closure, revise their community placement plans to include a newly authorized housing option—Adult Residential Facilities for Persons With Special Health Care Needs (ARFPSHCNs). The ARFPSHCNs serve individuals with stable but enduring health care needs; the legislatures approved the facilities as a housing option in October 2010.
