Fact Sheet: Next Generation Accountable Care Organization Model (NGACO Model)

In this document released on January 11, 2016, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) provided details about the Medicare Next Generation accountable care organization (ACO) program. The Next Generation ACO Model uses a combination of fee-for-service and capitation, and participants can choose one of four payment systems and two risk tracks. The model also includes a prospectively (rather than retrospectively) set benchmark, allows beneficiaries to choose to be aligned to the ACO, and tests beneficiary incentives for seeking care at Next Generation providers . . .
