January 25, 2011 Dow Jones, the publisher of the Wall Street Journal, filed the lawsuit to lift an injunction on public access to the file imposed in 1979 by a judge who ruled that disclosing information in the file would violate the 1974 Privacy Act. That 1979 ruling came in a lawsuit the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Florida Medical Association filed to prevent the federal government from publishing a list of annual Medicare reimbursements.
