The GIPS Model for Students with Emotional/Behavioral Disorders
February 10, 2011 School officials in Grand Island, Nebraska, are considering changing how they serve students who have emotional and behavioral needs. Instead of contracting with day treatment programs, the district would provide most services itself. A few students would remain in alternative settings. The goal is to increase the number of students who can receive behavioral services while also helping them re-integrate into traditional classrooms. The plan was presented by Toni Palmer and Robin Dexter, of Central Nebraska Support Services (CNSSP), at the February 10, 2011, Grand Island Public Schools (GIPS) board meeting.
