February 15, 2010 The report was released by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The research was conducted by Melissa Sickmund, Ph.D., of the National Center for Juvenile Justice. The data in the fact sheet were taken from the Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement and the Juvenile Residential Facility Census, both of which include one-day counts of the juvenile placement population. From 2000 to 2008, the number of youth detained in public and private residential juvenile justice facilities fell by 26%. Download the Report . . .
