In this report released on February 22, 2016, the federal Government Accountability Office (GAO) analyzed and categorize the types of health care fraud schemes used in 739 cases resolved in 2010. The GAO was also asked to determine the prevalence of schemes that could have been prevented by the use of "smart cards" for consumer or physician identification.
