Veterans’ Health Care: Preliminary Observations On Veterans’ Access To Choice Program Care: Statement Of Randall B. Williamson, Director, Health Care, General Accountability Office

On March 7, 2017, the Federal Government Accountability Office (GAO) released these preliminary observations on Veterans' Access to Choice Program Care in relation to the statement of Randall B. Williamson, Director of Health Care. The observations are in respect to Choice Program wait times.
The Choice Program allows veterans to obtain health care services outside the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) if those services are not available or readily accessible within VHA. The GAO found that--if VHA staff and the Choice Program contractors take the maximum amount of time allowed for appointment scheduling--veterans could potentially wait up to 81 . . .
