California AB 109, The Public Safety and Rehabilitation Act of 2010
March 17, 2011 Starting in 2012, California counties will be required to house juvenile offenders at county facilities or contract with the state Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to house them. The counties will be required to decide to send all their eligible youth to the DJJ facilities or send none. Contract prices are being developed. The contract option builds on 2010 state legislation that shifted responsibility for supervising youth paroled from the state Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) facilities to the counties.
