Monitoring the Use of the Mental Health Act in 2009/10
March 29, 2011 Despite a new cross-government mental health strategy for England, the involvement of persons with mental health disorders in treatment planning varies widely. A recent review by the English Care Quality Commission found wide geographical variations in patient involvement and choice. About 29% of inpatient psychiatric wards were overcrowded. Staff at inpatient psychiatric wards often lacked training about mechanical restraints. Approximately 45,000 people are detained annually in psychiatric wards under the Mental Health Act for assessment and treatment. Download the Report . . .
