The Economic Impact of Illicit Drug Use on American Society
April 1, 2011 A report released by the National Drug Intelligence Center found that in 2007, , health care costs and treatment, and lost productivity attributed to illegal drug use cost the United States more than $193 billion. The report attributed part of the cost to productivity losses that occur when employees are not working efficiently while at work, or are unable to work while hospitalized, incarcerated, receiving specialty treatment, or needing emergency department care related to illegal drug use.
