National Runaway Switchboard Crisis Caller Trends 2000-2009
April 13, 2010 The National Runaway Switchboard released a report highlighting crisis caller trends from 2000 through 2009. Between 2000 and 2009, the National Runaway Switchboard handled an average of 143,446 crisis calls annually. In 2005, economic problems were cited by two percent of callers, which rose to six percent by 2009. The impact of the recession, which started in 2008, continued through calendar year 2010, with six percent of callers still citing economic problems as a primary reason for the crisis.
