April 15, 2010 The federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality reviewed hospital readmissions within 30 days for 677,610 non-elderly Medicaid patients in 2007. The study included data from 10 states about readmission rates for a variety of inpatient settings, including mental health and substance abuse facilities. Across all settings, the 30-day readmission rate was 7.6%.  Inpatient psychiatric settings readmitted about 11.8% of Medicaid patients within 30 days.
