Medicaid & CHIP: Reports for Monitoring Childrens Health Care Services Need Improvement
April 15, 2011 Current reporting requirements regarding childrens health services provided through Medicaid or state Childrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP) plans lack sufficient detail to determine if children referred to treatment ever receive the services. Researchers from the U.S. Government Accountability Office reviewed fiscal year 2008 CMS 416 reports and CHIP annual reports, and found among other problems, that 12 states made errors on their CMS 416 reports; in 10 states the errors were large enough to overstate the extent that children received well child checkups.
