Most Medicaid Children in Nine States Are Not Receiving All Required Preventive Screening Services
May 21, 2010 The federal Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released a report finding that in nine states Medicaid-eligible children did not receive all the required number of Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) medical, vision, or hearing screening services. OIG also found that 76% of children's Medicaid EPSDT screenings were incomplete. OIG recommended that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services collaborate with states and provider organizations to develop strategies to encourage beneficiary participation in EPSDT screenings.
