Necessary But Not Sufficient: The HITECH Act And Health Information Technology’s Potential To Build Medical Homes
June 1, 2010 In June 2010, the Agency for Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) released a paper outlining three policy recommendations which would operationalize and implement key principles of the patient-centered medical home (PCMH). The policy recommendations include: 1. developing PCMH-specific certification criteria for electronic health records; 2. including PCMH functionalities in the meaningful-use concept; and 3. extending the role of HITECH‘s Regional Extension Centers to provide technical assistance to primary care providers on medical home principles.
