June 1, 2011 The Virginia Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released a semi-annual report regarding the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and inpatient psychiatric capacity to care for persons in crisis. The OIG estimated that between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011, VirginiaÂ’s 40 local Community Service Boards (CSBs) were unable to locate an appropriate inpatient bed at a public or private psychiatric facility within four hours for an estimated 200 people meeting the criteria for state-funded inpatient care.
