Testimony of Commissioner Courtney Burke of the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities to the State Assembly on Critical Reforms
June 13, 2011 On June 13, 2011, the New York Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) commissioner, Courtney Burke, gave a testimony on complainance with abuse reporting requirements and how OPWDD plans to enforce the law and prevent abuse incidents. She noted that between March 15 and May 31, 2011, group homes for persons with disabilities in New York reported on 60% of physical abuse allegations made by residents against staff or other residents. Ms. Burke also discussed proposed legislation that would bar OPWDD from hiring people convicted of violent crimes or sex offenses. Download the Report . . .
