The average adult family caregiver spends about 18 hours per week helping a family member perform activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, or coordinating care and advocating for their family member. Nearly two-thirds of family caregivers are women; 80% are caring for a relative of friend age 50 years or older. The value of unpaid caregiving was estimated at $450 billion.
