Consultation Codes Survey: Topline Report-Consolidated Results: May 2010 Results
June 25, 2010 A recent survey of physicians conducted by the American Medical Association found that the elimination of Medicare consultation codes has reduced specialistsÂ’ revenues by as much as 15% since January 1, 2010. About 5,500 physicians completed the survey; about 70% said their revenue has dropped by more than five percent and 30% reported drops of more than 15%. Codes for outpatient and inpatient consultations were eliminated by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as of January 1, 2010.
