New York State Department Of Health Vital Access Provider Exception Appeal Request: Medicaid Managed Care Primary Care Providers – Criterion For Safety-Net Designation Analysis & Recommendation

On July 7, 2016, the New York Department of Health released this document regarding Medicaid managed care. This document recommends a policy that designates primary care providers (PCP) as safety-net providers based on a minimum number of Medicaid members assigned by a managed care organization (MCO) to the PCP. This policy recommends that if a PCP has more than 25 MCO assigned Medicaid members, they qualify as a safety-net provider organization.
