Florida Department of Health Clarifications About HB 155, An Act Relating to the Privacy of Firearm Owners
July 18, 2011 On July 18, 2011, Florida Department of Health (DOH) released clarifications about a bill passed on July 2 recommending physicians avoid asking patients about guns in the home and discussing gun safety. The letter to physicians stated that although the law recommends that health care professionals avoid asking, the recommendation “does not apply when a health care practitioner or facility has a good faith belief that the information is relevant to a patient’s medical care or safety, or the safety of others.” DOH emphasized that health care professions and organizations are prohibited from entering any disclosed . . .
