Invitation to State Medicaid Directors to Apply for Medicaid Emergency Psychiatric Demonstration
August 9, 2011 The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services invited state Medicaid directors to participate in a new Medicaid Emergency Psychiatric Demonstration program that will permit states to reimburse for emergency psychiatric care provided in a facility with more than 16 beds. States must submit proposals by October 14, 2011; the three-year demonstration will provide up to $75 million to the selected states to cover the costs of emergency psychiatric care in a specialized psychiatric facility.
