August 24, 2011 On August 24, 2011, the federal Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division sent its investigation findings of the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR) to Mayor Giminez of Miami-Dade County. The DOJ investigation found that inadequate health care and mental health care services, staff indifference to violence among inmates, staff violence against inmates, and other conditions at MDCR's corrections facilities violated the constitutional civil rights of the prisoners.
