Maine LD 1920 – An Act To Modify The Expungement Requirements For Records Under The Child & Family Services & Child Protection Act

The proposed legislation was introduced on August 22, 2018, as part of a five-bill package sponsored by Maine Governor Le Page. It was signed on September 7, 2018. The provisions allow the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to retain all records created under the Child and Family Services and Child Protection Act for five years. Currently DHHS must expunge a record of a child protective services case for which there was a finding that the allegations were unsubstantiated after 18 months and prohibits the use of an expunged record for any purpose . . .
