From Burden to Best Buys: Reducing the Economic Impact of Non-Communicable Diseases in Low- and Middle-Income Countries
September 15, 2011 The World Health Organization (WHO) presented a core set of intervention strategies to reduce the worldwide burden of chronic, non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The report highlights recent findings about the economic consequences of NCDs and the resource needs for managing these conditions. The core intervention strategies include population-based measures to reduce tobacco use and unhealthy alcohol use, and improve eating habits, increase physical activity levels. The strategies also include individual-based measures to improve cardiovascular disease outcomes and reduce the incidence of liver cancer and cervical cancer. Download the Report . . .
