Workgroup Report: The Precision Medicine Initiative Cohort Program Building A Research Foundation For 21st Century Medicine
In January 2015, the federal government launched the Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI) program, which involves creating a PMI Cohort of up to one million volunteers who will provide genetic data for a biobank to be used by researchers seeking to develop tailored medical treatment based on genetic characteristics. In preparation for the PMI Cohort Program, in March 2015, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) formed a workgroup to develop a plan for creating and managing a large research cohort.
