Illinois Governor Response to Illinois Hospital Association Regarding Charitable Use Property Tax Exemptions
September 19, 2011  Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to the Illinois Hospital Association (IHA) that the Illinois Department of Revenue would postpone decisions about charitable use property tax exemptions requested by 15 non-profit hospital systems. IHA had appealed to the governor after the state Department of Revenue denied charitable use exemptions requested by three non-profit hospital systems. Governor Quinn directed the state legislature work with the association to craft legislation that more clearly defines what constitutes an adequate level of charity care that would qualify for the exemption.
