Nonpharmacologic Interventions for Treatment-Resistant Depression in Adults
September 23, 2011 The research was conducted for the Effective Health Care Program of the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to assess the comparative effectiveness program of treatments for patients with treatment resistant depression (TRD). The researchers reviewed available data from 64 randomized controlled trials addressing the comparative effectiveness of four non-pharmacological treatments—electroconvulsive therapy , repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, vagus nerve stimulation, and cognitive behavioral therapy or interpersonal psychotherapy. A patient with TRD was defined as a patient diagnosed with major depressive disorder who had no reduction in symptoms following two or more adequate antidepressant treatments. Download . . .
