First Episode: Psychosis
October 6, 2011 The results from a July 2011 survey conducted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) presents findings regarding individuals who have experienced psychosis firsthand or directly witness a family member or friend with psychosis. NAMI concluded that perceptions about psychosis differ in individuals experiencing psychosis and their families and friends, health care providers predominately did not recognize symptoms, and information, support and assisstant sources are often fragmented, uncoordinated, or difficult to find. A major statistic from the study found approximately 20 percent of individuals experiencing psychosis and their families and friends felt nobody helped the affected . . .
