Global Aging 2010: An Irreversible Truth
October 7, 2010 Analysts with Standard & PoorÂ’s Corporation estimated that by 2050, the world population of people over age 65 will double, from 7.6% in 2010 to 16.2%. In some countries, retirees will constitute two-thirds of the population. The analysts projected that the combination of fewer workers and high health care costs for frail retirees needing care would potentially dampen governmentsÂ’ ability to sell bonds, and recommended that governments focus on ways to reduce health care costs.
