Sharing Information Between the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense, Interim Final Rule
October 15, 2011 The Department of Veterans Affairs amended a previous regulation that restricted the disclosure of medical records related to drug abuse, alcoholism or alcohol abuse, HIV, and sickle cell anemia to the Department of Defense. The new rule will improve coordination of care between the two agencies, which jointly provide services and benefits to over 4 million patients. It went into effect upon publication.
