Low-Wage Workers: Poverty & Use Of Selected Federal Social Safety Net Programs Persist Among Working Families

On October 29, 2017, the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) released this report on low-wage workers and their use of social safety net programs. The GAO found that, on average, low-wage workers work fewer fewer hours per week, are more highly concentrated in a few industries and occupations, and have lower educational attainment than workers earning hourly wages above $16 in each year GAO reviewed - 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2016.
