October 31, 2011 The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released a final rule for its update on the Home Health Prospective Payment System (HH PPS) rates for calendar year 2012. The rule will decrease the payments to home health agencies by $430 million dollars. Also, it finalizes structural changes to HH PPS with the removal of two hypertension codes from the case-mix system, lowering payments for high therapy episodes, and recalibrating HH PPS case-mix weights to make sure the changes result in equal total aggregate payments.
