Expenses For Office-Based Physician Visits By Specialty, 2013, MEPS Statistical Brief #484

In this report released in November 2015 by researchers affiliated with the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the researchers analyzed data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) 2013 Office-Based Medical Provider Visits Files. They found that the average total amount paid for an office-based physician visit in 2013 was $228. The average total payment per visit ranged across the eight most common specialty types seen in office visits, from $143 for psychiatry, to $303 for cardiology . . .
