Potentially Preventable Hospitalizations for Acute & Chronic Conditions, 2008
November 15, 2010 Researchers reviewing community hospital discharges in 2008 found that 10% of nearly 40 million hospitalizations were potentially preventable if appropriate outpatient care had been provided. Most of the hospitalizations were for diabetes, dehydration, certain heart conditions, and infections.
