Mental Health Services in Maine: A Blueprint for Action
December 13, 2010 The State of Maine can improve behavioral heath care and cut costs by discontinuing its direct service role and concentrateing on funding, policy, and outcomes. Since the state seeks to move MaineCare to a managed care model, the selected managed care organization be required to only contract with provider organizations that provide integrated behavioral health and medical care, and the contracts should be driven by outcome measurements. Additionally, the state should close the Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center (DDPC); the closure plans should focus on transition needs and on the development of permanent supported housing and assertive community . . .
