December 31, 2009 On March 19, 2010, Maine was released from the Pineland Consent Decree filed in 1978. U.S. District Justice George Singal said the state was in substantial compliance with the updated consent decree terms of 1994 and that the state has mechanisms in place to ensure compliance in the future.
