June 15, 2011 The report released by the federal ChildrenÂ’s Bureau contains fiscal 2010 Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System data and a trend report. Since 2002, the number of children in foster care has dropped by 22%, from about 523,000 in 2002 to about 408,425 in 2010. Between 2009 and 2010, the number of children in foster care on September 30 dropped by 3.1%, from approximately 421,000 children in 2009 to 408,425 in 2010. Download the Report . . .
