Home automation technologies installed in the home of a person with disabilities reduce the person’s reliance on caregivers and family members, increase the person’s independence, and improve energy and comfort in the home. A study of the social return on investment (SROI) in Australia found that across a 10-year benefit period, every $1 invested to purchase and install home automation technologies had an SROI ranging from $15.10 for high-cost technologies to $38.80 for low-cost technologies.
