68% Of Preschoolers Diagnosed With ADHD Were Prescribed ADHD Medications By Age 7
Among preschool-age children diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), 68.2% were prescribed ADHD medications before 7 years of age, according to a recent analysis of primary care records. These findings suggest that investigation of barriers to nonpharmacological interventions, which are considered the first-line intervention for young children with ADHD, as well as factors associated with early prescriptions of ADHD medications for preschool-age children, is warranted, the researchers stated.
