When considering state affordability for senior care, Mississippi is the most affordable state overall, according to an analysis by Caring, LLC. Mississippi was ranked as the most affordable state for having one of the least expensive annual costs for assisted living ($53,343), an overall low cost of living, and low home care costs.

South Dakota was ranked as the most affordable for assisted living, with a median annual cost of $52,200, which is about $20,000 less than the national median, according to the analysis.
