U.S. Adult Obesity Prevalence Projected To Reach 46.9% By 2035
By 2035, nearly half (46.9%) of adults age 20 and older in the United States are projected to be living with obesity. As of 2022, approximately 42.5% of adults were living with obesity, with significant variation by state and race/ethnicity.
The estimates were developed using self-reported height and weight data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, and the Gallup Daily Survey. The combined sample included 11.3 million respondents. Obesity was defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher.
