CMS To Strengthen Oversight Of State Medicaid Managed Care Network Adequacy Standards
The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is preparing to strengthen its oversight of state Medicaid managed care network adequacy standards. CMS intends to ensure that states develop network adequacy standards for key provider organization types. CMS will also strengthen its oversight of states' methods to assess Medicaid managed care organization (MCO) compliance with the state standards, and CMS will ensure that states conduct direct tests of access standards. As part of this effort, CMS will provide technical assistance and share effective practices with state Medicaid agencies.
