I have read some of the new thinking on leadership development and came across this very interesting piece, How Virtual Humans Can Build Better Leaders. The leadership program featured in this Harvard Business Review blog article by Randall Hill, executive director of the University of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies, is ELITE (emergent leader immersive training environment) – a virtual-human development system for junior and noncommissioned officers in the U.S. military.

Mr. Hill's description of the technology – “flight simulators for social skills" – is a good description of a program touting "realistic previews of what leaders might encounter . . .
