Hospitalizations For Mental Disorders Among Active Military Personnel Increased 87% Between 2000 & 2011
Between 2000 and 2011, the number of hospitalizations among active military service members experiencing a mental health disorder increased by 87%, from 11,604 hospitalizations in 2000 to 21,646 hospitalizations in 2011. During the same period, the number of active military service members increased by about five percent, from 1.38 million in 2000 to 1.46 million in 2011. During 2012, there were 21,360 hospitalizations for mental health disorders among active duty service members.
