12% Of Health Care Professionals Terminated From One State Medicaid Program Continue Participating In Other States

As of January 2014, about 12% of Medicaid provider organizations and professionals who had been terminated from Medicaid participation during 2011 were continuing to participate in other state Medicaid programs. In 2011, states terminated 2,539 Medicaid provider organizations and professionals. Of that group, 295 were found to be participating in another state’s Medicaid program. These Medicaid programs paid $7.4 million to 94 providers for services performed after each provider’s termination for cause by the initial state.
