18% Of Adults With Tinnitus Reduce Work Hours Or Leave The Workforce
A full 18% of adults with tinnitus reduced work hours (11%) or stopped working entirely (7%), according to a recent study. Tinnitus is the conscious perception of sound, such as ringing or buzzing, in the absence of an external auditory stimulus. Overall, the condition affects an estimated 15% of the global population, although only a subset experience symptoms severe enough to interfere with daily functioning.
The research examined data from 449 participants who sought to enroll in an eight-week internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (ICBT) intervention for tinnitus. Of these, 200 completed the intervention.
