44,000 Health Care Professionals Applied For Meaningful Use Hardship Exemptions
By July 1, 2014, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) had received about 44,000 Meaningful Use hardship exemption applications from eligible professionals unable to attest to meeting meaningful use criteria in 2015 because they were not able to implement or upgrade to the 2014 Edition of Certified Electronic Health Record Technology (CEHRT) due to delays in availability. On October 7, 2014, CMS reopened the submission period for eligible professionals and hospitals to submit hardship exemptions for waivers from meeting the Medicare meaningful use requirements.
